Since her last return, we have forgotten how trips take a toll on our relationship as if life comes to a halt. The partner leaving home may look forward to change, fleeing from mundane chores, facing mishaps and adventure. The partner staying may look forward to calmness, routine and familiar comforts.
On the otherhand, the partner leaving may dread having to rush around to get things done last minute, buy last minute trip things, pack, back pay bills, set up meetings over Skype, make hotel accommodations, reserve and confirm flight schedules and anticipate the harsh loneliness of leaving home. Partner staying despise the abandonment, dreads having to cook alone, clean, take care of kids/pets, shop, pay bills, deal with family issues and Partner One's panic and anxiety before, during and after his/her time away.
We blame each other for the things we have no control over. We have been arguing non-stop since take off over fuzzy Internet calls and miscommunicated text messages. The only time things are going well are when we talk about silly, little everyday things that might make us laugh for a moment of digression or two. Do all couples have a hard time adjusting to this crazy business travel?
This blog will document our time apart and all the mundane to deep issue-ridden fears, anger and joys that may either bring us together, or tear us apart. Will this help us mend our travel sickness or help us realize that this was never meant to be?
Here's to another 4-week sprint of battling with time difference, fuzzy reception, lack of immediate emotional and physical support and the loss of routine investments everyday.
Wish us luck!
